Alternative Men’s Haircuts

Alternative Men’s Haircuts

In professional world it’s easy to divert to a common traditional haircut to maintain respectability and professionalism. So, naturally, most men choose such common haircuts, but there are always some men who want to show off their unique side and wear their hair differently, which is when alternative haircuts are seen.

While some people may turn their noses up as alternative hairstyles being inappropriate, there are some very popular alternative haircuts, like the Mohawk, or now the Faux Hawk, as well as a bald or shaved head. There are ways to wear these styles and look great, even if some people consider them bizarre.

It’s not easy to get a haircut that doesn’t look just like everyone’s else. We all have our own identities, and it shouldn’t stop with our hair. If you’re trying to make a personal image and break out of the normal, acceptable conventions, try out an alternative haircut. It may excite you and give you an inspiring experience when you realize how much you can really do with your hair. Sure, you may hope to have your haircut for a long time, but why let it bore you? Following are some alternative haircuts you may want to try, if you dare.

The Brush Cut

Like many trends throughout the years, the brush cut used to be a very unpopular cut, but it’s really coming back to life. Another style that’s true to its name, the brush cut makes the hair look like the bristles of a brush, with the hair on top standing straight up. It’s a style that often works for boys and young adults, but many older men are trying it out these days too.

The Faux-Hawk

The faux hawk is designed for people who don’t want to be quite as alternative as the full Mohawk would make them. It’s a little bit wild, a little bit traditional, but one hundred percent fun. The hair is usually kept around one-quarter to one-half inch on the sides, and goes up to two to four inches on top. Hair can be styled with gel, sprays, or pomade to give the spiky appearance of a Mohawk, or kept smoother to be more traditional.

The Mohawk

The Mohawk stands out as the epitome of bizarre and unique haircuts, and it essentially consists of shaving the entire head except for a strip of hair down the middle. The strip runs from the forehead to the back of the neck and is usually two to four inches wide. That hair can be anywhere from a few inches to a foot long, depending on a personal style. Typically, the hair left in a Mohawk is styled and gelled into sharp spikes above the head.

The Razor Cut

The razor cut is simply another method to cutting hair, which is to use a razor instead of the more common clippers or scissors. It’s an excellent way to create a jagged look in hair or to make hair look choppy. The down side is that hairstyles using a razor cut do not have the neatest or cleanest appearance, since there are some messy lines made in the cut, but again, that’s the point of the alternative haircut in general.

Spikes

Wildly popular among younger men, spikes create a very unusual hairstyle. Styling products are necessary to create the look of spikes. Using the product, gather the hair and twist or shape it into sharp spikes all over your head. Though it may sound similar to the Mohawk, no hair needs to be shaved off the head. Spikes are made from hair all over the head.
